Watching a pair of Lovebirds play is the ultimate in entertainment. Lovebirds are beautiful, smart little bundles of energy. It is more fun to watch them and their antics than watching your favorite TV show. The best way that I can describe them is, they are a very close comparison to young children. Each has its own personality, they love to play, and love their toys. They climb around, hang upside down, and love to crawl through tight spaces. With their hooked bills, there is no stopping them. Just like young children, they can be easily frightened by unexpected loud noises, yelling, quick movements, unfamiliar people or voices. It is best to talk softly and move in slow motion until they are totally familiar with their new family. Lovebirds, as all birds, need a lot of sleep. at least 10 to 12 hours at night. It is a good idea to cover their cage with a sheet when it is birdie bedtime. They should be located in a quiet but not a totally out of the way place. Probably not in the living room where the television might be on at night. When I first learned how much fun it was to watch them play, it was at meal time in the dining room, probably the best place in your house for them to feel at home. Kitchens have too many dangers for your birds especially if they are let out of their cage. There are hot stoves, sinks full of water and accidentlly burning food or a teflon pan can be fatal. Never keep your birds in a dark damp basement.
